Your bucket list. Quarterly objectives. Strategic plans. Big dreams. Goals. Lots of goals and plans to achieve those goals―no matter what. Except …

You're not chasing the goal itself, you're actually chasing the feeling that you hope achieving that goal will give you.

Which means we have the procedures of achievement upside down. We go after the stuff we want to have, get, or accomplish, and we hope that we'll be fulfilled when we get there. It's backwards. And it's burning us out.

So what if you first got clear on how you actually wanted to feel in your life, and then created some "Goals with Soul"?

With The Desire Map, Danielle LaPorte brings you a holistic life-planning tool that will revolutionize the way you go after what you want in life. Unapologetically passionate and with plenty of warm wit, LaPorte turns the concept of ambition inside out and offers an inspired, refreshingly practical workbook for using the Desire Map process:

Identify your "core desired feelings" in every life domain: livelihood & lifestyle, body & wellness, creativity & learning, relationships & society, and essence & spirituality
• Create practical "Goals with Soul" to generate your core desired feelings
• Why easing up on your expectations actually liberates you to reach your goals
• Self-assessment quizzes, worksheets, and complete Desire Mapping tools for creating the life you truly long for
Goal-setting just got a makeover.

There are more than 10,000 "Desire Mappers" who have worked through this system. "Every day I get stories about inner clarity, quitting jobs, dumping the chump, renewing vows, pole-dancing classes, writing memoirs, moving on," says Danielle. "This is about liberation. And pleasure. And self-determination. This is about doing much less proving, and way more living."

If you've had enough of trying to trick yourself into happiness through affirmations or bucket-listing your hopes into some distant future, then you're ready for The Desire Map―a dream-fulfilling system that harnesses your soul-deep desire to feel good.

... read many books with similar messages and usually really love them for the motivation they give me I've read many books with similar messages and usually really love them for the motivation they give me. This book, however, i just couldn't get in to. First of all, i find the author arrogant and unrelatable. She delights in telling her readers of her great successes and talks about mocking people for the choices they have made in their own lives. Ok, so I'm supposed to take advice from some rich mean girl? Nah.My other big issue is that the text goes nowhere. She just jabbers on and on without ever really reaching a point. It reminds me of my school papers from my childhood where I had to meet a page requirement but ran out of things to say nu page 2.All in all I couldn't finish the book. I tried but it kept putting me to sleep which is pretty much the opposite of what I look for in a book like this.I really wanted to like this I really wanted to like this book but it was mainly just a disorganized stream of consciousness (rambling, conversational to the point of not really saying anything, random lack of capitalization, etc.). Did not find this particularly easy to read or helpful. The negative feedback is true… BUT… I had wanted this book, but when I read the negative reviews I decided not to buy it. However, I still received it as a Christmas present and I’m glad I did.You will read negative reviews about it being disorganized, and yes, it is. But deliciously so. Even though I’m your geeky over-planner goal-oriented step-by-step person, I really enjoyed reading this book. There’s also a complain about the play of font sizes and how it’s difficult to read on Kindle. Yes, that’s true, to an extent. I didn’t find it difficult per se, it’s different. And I did enjoy the fact that some pages had huge font and I could pass them over quickly. In the printed form it’s a design choice. I’m a designer and I enjoyed it thoroughly.Look, if you really want to do the work, just get a notebook and do the exercises there. They also complain that Danielle’s language is fake to make it more palatable. See, I see Danielle as a bit of a poet and it shows in her writing. So she builds weird sentences and adds too many periods and so what… That’s her style. I found it direct and soothing and entertaining. I could hear her voice in her words. Also, there are lots of quotes from famous people… ok, yeah, I could do without all the quotes… but I just didn’t read them all. They also complain that she packaged the content in a way that is convenient for her in terms of sales. Well, yeah!!! I mean… wouldn’t we all? She’s not forcing you to buy anything… and this book in itself is enough to apply all the concepts. You really don’t need to buy anything else… unless you want to. She’s a savvy business woman! And that’s a good thing! In conclusion, (just like jazz), it ain’t for everybody. In my opinion the people who have left the negative reviews just are not ready for this kind of knowledge, it’s not their time, or it’s just not their style. And that’s fine. You can expect this book to read exactly as Danielle speaks. Go to her YouTube channel and watch her speak. If you resonate with her, then buy the book.I just finished my desire map and even though this year started with a lot on anxiousness, the book helped me to focus and now I know exactly what my plan for 2015 looks like.
